Taliesin Preservation Inc. is excited to announce the new Frank Lloyd Wright Trail website, Trail Tracker and updated app (FrankLloydWrightTrail.org). The new website maps out and connects nine public Wright sites along 200 miles in southern Wisconsin. Visitors can plan their trip with the newly updated app or track their progress with the Trail Tracker and receive a Frank Lloyd Wright Trail Badge to share on social media. The new website also provides information about America’s most iconic architect and his deep roots in his birthplace of Wisconsin.
The Frank Lloyd Wright Trail was originally established in 2017 following the signing of legislation by the governor to honor America’s most iconic architect in his home state. It included the installation of roadway signage and a public relations campaign. The self-guided automotive trail consists of nine public sites chosen to provide architectural enthusiasts and casual visitors with a rich exposure to Wright’s architectural
genius. Each site is unique, providing different experiences for visitors.
Traveling from east to west, the Trail originates on Interstate 94 near the Wisconsin-Illinois border in Racine County, proceeds north to Milwaukee, then west across the state to Madison, onward to Spring Green, and ends in Richland Center—in the place where it all began in the city of Wright’s birth. The Trail consists of the following sites: SC Johnson Administrative Building and Research Tower, The Johnson Foundation at Wingspread, Burnham Block, Monona Terrace, First Unitarian Society Meeting House, Taliesin and Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center, Wyoming Valley School, and A.D. German Warehouse.
The campaign will build upon the pre-existing and updated app and the new website will offer a Trail Tracker for those who wish to track their visits and receive a Frank Lloyd Wright Trail Badge to share on social media upon completion. Dedicated Facebook and Instagram accounts have also been created at @flwtrailwi. The relaunch also consists of digital ads, airport digital display boards, print ads, a brochure, Wisconsin Public Radio and Wisconsin Public Television announcements, and other promotions. These efforts would not be possible without generous support from the Wisconsin Department of Tourism in the form of a Joint Effort Marketing (JEM) Grant and including inputs from each of the sites that form the Trail network.
The prevalence of Wright’s architecture in southern Wisconsin, which was his home, makes the Frank Lloyd Wright Trail attractive to Wright enthusiasts—and the striking characteristics of his architecture hold the interest of young and old. Visit the new website, contact the individual sites in advance as public access may be limited, and start planning your trip today!
